I despair sometimes. But not always.
Communion Sunday does not normally seem an occasion to be celebrated in the Church of Scotland. The service lasts longer, the minister talks more, and an amazing bizarre ritual takes place which seems to have little impact on anyone. Or so it appears.
I’m used to the AngliCANs, and their liturgy, [...]

Making happiness
Posted in life, musings, photos on October 27, 2007 | Leave a Comment »
I have been influenced increasingly over the last few months by The Happiness Project. It came partly out of a realisation that most people doing the MA (including me) weren’t all that happy a lot of the time, an I was trying to unpick why that was.
All talented people, doing something we loved, we tended [...]
Blogroll Change

Just wanted to draw your attention to a couple of changes on the Blogroll…
I’ve linked to Jerry’s new (rather than his dead) blog, available here. I’m trying to think of a way of describing his blog, but beyond “he’s a church of scotland minister, but probably not really how you imagine a church of scotland [...]
British Train Travel

I love travelling by train. I find it relaxing, and as long as it isn’t too dark, interesting too. I spent over 40 hours studying for my dissertation on trains – I just found they had a great atmosphere conjucive for concentration. I was up in Dundee last weekend, and the MP3 player in [...]
Cycling by Night

If you cycle in Edinburgh, you have to learn pretty quickly to cycle up hills. One thing that never ceases to amaze me is the psychological component of cycling up a big (city) hill. Sure, will power enough will not have you powering up the mound, but if you don’t believe you can make it, [...]

Less drama, more laundry
Dave Savage
Which pretty much somes up how I should be at the moment. Time to get down to what needs to be done, and leave the excitement for a time when the basics are covered.

on talking about chocolate cheesecake and curry.

In moments of weakness, loneliness, tiredness, frustratedness, aggness, it never ceases to suprise me how a good tikka masala/red thai curry and a slice of chocolate cheesecake can turn around my fortunes. Or perhaps, the way I feel about my fortunes.
I do not however, indulge such everytime I get the urge, I’m sure if I [...]
Hey there deliliah, could you help us out with the worship today? (2)

Jerermy Killian commentated last week on the Hey There Delilah… post that:
A lot of the reason, at least in my opinion, that church music doesn’t feel reassuring and fresh is that it’s not. Fresh I mean; church music, even the great church music of history, is being played into the ground. Imagine if you heard [...]
unsmug evangelism

One of the great things about temping is getting the chance to see a load of different offices in action. One of the apparently universal features of offices around Edinburgh, however, is the presence of an overweight lady who is unsuccessfully trying to lose weight.
Conversation inevitably turns at some point to the latest weightloss technique. [...]
Not a Scotland Victory…

Disappointingly this evening, Scotland lost their euro2008 qualifier in Georgia. The team did not play well, there was none of the gel and fluidity of previous matches. We can still qualify, just got to beat Italy at Hampden…
Things are looking much worse though for England, who lost 2-1 to Russia (on that controversial russian plastic [...]
